Al-Quds said Greece is due Tuesday to recognize the State of Palestine as an independent State in the presence of visiting President Abbas.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement: “We are surprised and disappointed by this counterproductive resolution which further internationalises the conflict and which disincentives the Palestinians from returning to the negotiating table which is the only way forward”.
However, the resolution is nonbinding and thus does not constitute a full government recognition of Palestine. “We no longer accept from anybody to use the name Palestinian Authority”, Abbas told a joint news conference after meeting with Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras.
Abbas stressed that there can be no Palestinian state without Jerusalem as its capital. Also prior the UN General Assembly in September this year, large number of European Union and countries around the world endorsed UN resolution allowing the Palestinian flag to fly at UN headquarters around the world.
Tsipras’ government is trying to balance improved relations with Israel with his party’s longstanding support for a Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, the dailies said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a proposal made by Turkey, in which the latter conditioned Israel’s lifting of its siege on Gaza, with reaching a normalizing ties agreement between them.

Abbas then took to the podium to call for universal recognition of Palestine.
