Palestinian attempts to ram Israelis, is shot dead
Israeli police work next to the body of a Palestinian, who authorities said was shot dead by police after the December 23 stabbing rampage.

Had the attacks not been thwarted, they would have led to mass casualty incidents and plunged the region into a security escalation, the Shin Bet warned in a statement. The assailant was shot dead by IDF soldiers at the scene of the attack. The Palestinian health ministry identified him as Iyad Idaissat, 25, from the village of Yatta.
Earlier on Friday, clashes broke out between Palestinian protesters and the IDF in the West Bank.
Israeli Public Radio quoted Israeli army sources as saying the Palestinian young man was shot dead when carried out a stabbing attack against Israeli soldiers at the barrier.
Zayed was the fourth Palestinian from the camp to be killed by Israeli forces in the last 24 hours.
The ongoing unrest has led to a sharp decrease in pilgrims travelling to the West Bank city of Bethlehem, where the Bible says Jesus was born, for Christmas Eve celebrations and the traditional midnight mass at the Church of the Nativity.
The attack took place at the Jaffa Gate of the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem.
Thursday morning two security guards were seriously wounded in the Barkan industrial zone near Ariel in Samaria when a Palestinian Arab stabbed them.
The attacker’s identity was not immediately known.

On Wednesday at the main tourist entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City, an Israeli was stabbed to death and another killed, seemingly by a stray police bullet as officers shot dead the two Palestinian assailants.
The Shin Bet, in a rare public response, denied on Thursday it had tortured any of the suspects and said such “lies” were being disseminated in an effort to undermine the investigation. A third victim, who was stabbed multiple times in the attack, remains in serious condition.
“While the number of attacks by Palestinians on Israeli civilians, soldiers and police has increased significantly since the beginning of October, there is never any excuse for the Israeli military and police forces using lethal force where it is not warranted”.

Azam himself was recruited by Hamas in Gaza “to set up a military infrastructure that would carry out bombing attacks against Israeli targets”, the intelligence agency stated.
