Arsenal have probably spent too much time in the last decade looking for excuses: stadium debt, losing their best players, injury crises, bad luck and so forth all conspiring to keep them away from challenging for the Premier League title they last won in 2004.
“But it is a significant game because when you look at Manchester City and the quality they have on the pitch, we know at the end they will be there fighting for the championship”.
– Arsenal have lost just one of their last 11 Premier League games against Southampton (W6 D4 L1). He plays to win the game.
“We have had a lot of hard games and we are happy now to win against Manchester City all the team is happy and me two”, Özil told Sky Sports after the game in his first post match interview in English. Players like Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, Danny Welbeck, and Alexis Sánchez are out due to injuries, but thankfully, other footballers have been able to step up.
To maintain that difference, they need to remain focused against Ronald Koeman’s side, who have just one point from their last five matches, a 1-1 home draw with bottom club Aston Villa.
After a mixed opening half of the season, Arsenal travelled to the Etihad and effectively frustrated their opposition, playing on the break to sweep to a 2-0 win which inspired a superb run of form.
“Confidence is built up very slowly and goes very quickly, so let’s take care of our next performance”.
Who will win the title?
“If you look back at 2015, we have been consistent overall and have had quite a positive record.
I noticed that he was an Arsenal supporter and we spoke exclusively about football, not about politics”. The Arsenal teams of the early Emirates era, for all their promise and talent, could not play like that.
Arsenal’s Boxing Day trip to Southampton kicks off at 7.45pm on BT Sport 1.
“We have been top of the league (at various times) in previous years and I think football is pragmatic”.

“That is our thought and that is why we implement them into games sometimes, but we are still unsafe on the counter attack and that makes us a real threat”.
