Steam meltdown as Valve’s store spills other gamers’ details
Millions of Steam users were met with a nasty surprise on Christmas day as an apparent caching issue on the popular gaming service gave users limited access to random accounts. Business as usual, I guess. Threads on Reddit are titled “I’m logged in as someone random on Steam?” and “Signed into a random stranger’s account”.

Now reports are emerging of users getting access to the account details of other Steam users including access to their email, phone number and credit card details.
So yeah, it’s a huge mess.
An official cause has not been issued, but speculation (including from the diligent Valve followers at Steam Database) is pointing to a caching issue gone horribly wrong. While the client seems fine, the web site is throwing up random users when you visit.

Using Steam Guard and the Steam Mobile Authenticator-two tools for protecting your Steam account-both appear to be doing nothing to prevent this: Two accounts I’ve been shown the information shown for have been equipped with one or the other. It’s quite daunting because you see other peoples’s accounts and their currency too.
