Charles Woodson to Raiders Fans: ‘I Will Never Leave You’
The Oakland Raiders needed to work overtime Thursday night, but they got a win for safety Charles Woodson in his final career home game and a victory in what could well have been the team’s final game ever in Oakland.

Carr then led Oakland on a methodical march of 14 plays to get to the San Diego 13-yard line, from where Sebastian Janikowski nailed a 31-yard field goal for the lead.
On the Raiders first drive of the game, second-year quarterback Derek Carr dropped back to throw the ball but had the ball tipped at the line by Chargers defensive end Kendall Reyes, who made a nice diving play to come away with the interception.
But Oakland did move the ball in overtime after winning the toss. The players saluted their fan bases who fear their squads are moving to the Los Angeles area.
“It’s been a joy for me to come back and play here for a second time around”, Woodson told the crowd.
But it took a couple of crucial turnarounds in the fourth quarter to put Oakland in position to win. “It was a little bit much for me”, Woodson said at his news conference long after the game. Chargers tight end Antonio Gates recorded two catches for 11 yards as a non-factor in the middle of the field.
Yup, that’s a loss of 3 yards.
“He is not able to be himself on the short week”, head coach Jack Del Rio said.
Woodson’s ending may coincide with the conclusion of the Raiders in Oakland as the franchise could relocate to Los Angeles next season. He also scored on a 22-yard run. He managed to accumulate 204 passing yards and throw a touchdown pass inside the 5-yard line.
The game was not a pretty one for the majority of the game, but the Raiders defense did just enough to overcome an off night for the offense that was highlighted by two Carr touchdown passes to Michael Crabtree. “And it doesn’t make it any easier on us to lose another one like that”. However, Oakland linebacker Malcolm Smith forced a fumble, and defensive end Benson Mayowa recovered it and returned 41 yards to the 3. If you understand that, you understand it’s bigger than you too. “That’s all I was thinking about”. Though this is my last game in the Coliseum, just know that I’ll never leave you.
The Chargers drove 67 yards and settled for a Lambo, seeking redemption, 48-yard field goal to the tie the game at 20. It never is. We can never get done what we want to accomplish with one individual. “We’ve got to find a way to get this game won”. After holding a 17-12 lead in the third quarter, the Chargers appeared to be on track to put the game out of reach. After Woodson lost 3 yards on a reverse when San Diego covered a possible pass to Carr in the end zone, Janikowski hit the go-ahead field goal.
Although he was unable to generate any offense in overtime, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had a respectable performance with 277 yards and one touchdown pass. Running back Danny Woodhead rushed for 55 yards while adding eight catches for 53 yards.

The next play, Rivers went deep to Ladarius Green for an apparent touchdown, but a replay review ruled it incomplete for hitting the ground.
