India’s Modi arrives in Pakistan on first visit as premier
Geo TV said Modi will land at 3 p.m. (3.30 Indian time) but it was not clear whether the two leaders will hold talks at the airport or elsewhere in Lahore. “Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi”, Modi tweeted, taking the Indian media by surprise by announcing an unscheduled meeting with the Pakistani leader on Twitter.

Senior journalist and famous anchor person Talat Hussain claimed that such a short visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pakistan is shameful for Pakistan, TheNewsTribe.com reported.
The previously unplanned visit is an indication of enhancing relations between the 2 nuclear-armed neighbors. He says he also called Sharif and wished him happy birthday.
Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan has received acclaim as well as criticism.
After months of a freeze, India and Pakistan resumed high-level contacts with a brief conversation between Sharif and Modi at climate change talks in Paris late last month, part of efforts to restart a peace dialogue plagued by militant attacks and long-standing distrust.
Modi, a Hindu nationalist, came to power in 2014, and has authorised a more robust approach to Pakistan, giving security forces the licence to retaliate forcefully along their disputed border and demanding an end to insurgent attacks in Indian territory.
“Terror and violence can not be the instrument to shape Afghanistan’s future or dictate the choices Afghans make”, Modi told Afghan MPs.
Earlier on Thursday, Modi visited Russia’s National Crisis Management Centre (NCMC), also known as EMERCOM, in Moscow and was given a rundown on how its works.
Addressing a joint session of the two Afghan Houses in the new Parliament building along with President Ashraf Ghani, Modi, in an apparent reference to Pakistan, made it a point to mention that New Delhi has been helping Kabul inorder to lay down the foundation stone of a new relationship between both the countries.

Without referring directly to Pakistan, India’s traditional rival in the region, Modi said that some had seen “sinister designs in our presence” in Afghanistan. “And all of us in the region – India, Pakistan, Iran and others – must unite in trust and cooperation behind the common objective and in recognition of our common destiny”.
