PM Narendra Modi To Meet Nawaz Sharif In First Pakistan Visit
The party said that “friendship and betrayal can not go hand in hand” as it reacted sharply to the surprise announcement by Modi as he prepared to wind up his brief visit to Afghanistan today.

Geo TV reported that the visit “was not that surprising” as the Lahore Air Traffic Control had been told about it on Thursday.
Prime Minister Modi also wished his Pakistani counterpart on his birthday.
He said that those who say that Prime Minister has gone to Pakistan to celebrate the birthday of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, they should also mention that he had celebrated Diwali with the soldiers on the border.
However upon his arrival at Lahore Modi disembarked from his airplane and boarded the prime ministers helicopter signaling that the two leaders will in fact be holding their meeting at the prime minister’s residence in Raiwind.
Before leaving, Modi blessed the bride.
The last visit to Pakistan by an Indian prime minister was in 2004 by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose 91st birthday fell today and who is credited with bringing about a thaw in relations with Islamabad. He is meeting with PM Sharif and his family at the airport in Lahore, officials said.
The relations between India and Pakistan have witnessed some positive developments after a chill for several months. “India and Pakistan have to evolve a mechanism to involve the core party to the issue – that is the Kashmiri people”.
The Indian prime minister also met Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah and former president Hamid Karzai. “This is an evolutionary process and step in the right direction”.
“This is how this visit was suddenly planned”, he said. An industrialist who has a private business with ruling establishment in Pakistan is there already, so how is Prime Minister’s visit spontaneous?’ he asked.
This will be PM Modi’s first visit to Pakistan. He perhaps is the first Indian to have done this.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif received his Indian counterpart at the Allama Iqbal International.
Opening the parliament building in Kabul, Modi pledged India’s support for the Afghan government and urged regional powers including Pakistan to work together to foster peace.
“I think it is going to play a significant role in improving ties between the two South Asian archrivals”, said Amanullah Memon, a professor of worldwide relations at Preston University in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
