Robert Downey Jr. among Gov. Jerry Brown’s 91 Christmas pardons
The governor of California pardoned Downey Jr. on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, for a almost 20-year-old felony drug conviction that sent the Oscar-nominated actor to jail for almost a year.

The governor rescinded one of last year’s Christmas Eve pardons after the Los Angeles Times reported that the pardon’s recipient had recently had a case before the federal Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. People convicted of a criminal offense in Calif. may apply to the governor for a pardon.
Downey obtained his pardon following a judge issuing him a Certificate of Rehabilitation. Does it make a difference?
Robert Downey Jr., 50, has had more than his share of problems regarding drug addiction and drug-related arrests, but he has left all of that behind him, making a remarkable turnaround.
The one time Hollywood “bad boy” has been a top box-office star largely due to the success of the Marvel’s Iron Man and Avengers franchise.
“By completion of his sentence and good conduct in the community of his residence since his release, Robert John Downey, Jr. has paid his debt to society and earned a full and unconditional pardon”, reads the pardon announcement. After serving over a year in prison, he completed his parole at the end of 2002 and says he has been drug-free since 2003.
However, he started facing legal troubles since 1996, when cocaine, heroin and a pistol were found in his vehicle by the police.
