Shots fired inside North Carolina shopping mall
“There was one armed subject that was shot during the altercation and he was pronounced deceased on scene”, according to the statement, which added that no officers were injured during the incident. There was no evidence that the argument leading up to it was gang-related, he said.

The scene was chaotic after the shooting as people raced to flee the mall, and many people sought shelters inside the stores.
Police have not released any information about the shooter at this time but CNN is reporting an altercation is what prompted the shooting in the mall.
“Five guys started fighting, two of them ran out of the store when the third guy came out of the store he pulled out a gun”, Elliott told WBTV.
Witnesses told NBC station WCNC that they heard about a dozen shots.
The officer then fired his service weapon, Putney said. But then I heard a rapid fire. The suspect received medical aid, but died shortly afterwards.
Authorities say Daquan Antonio Westbrook, known as rap star “Donkey Cartel”, shot another man before an off-duty cop killed him.
‘There were kids running and I am like where are your parents so I started pushing them inside the stores where I was running. Multiple weapons were found at the scene. I was trying to get to Dillard’s [department store] to run out the mall’.
Leah Lowery was near the Icing store on her way to Starbucks when she heard the gunshots.
Fifteen to 20 feet away in a mall common area, she said, she saw a body lying prone on the polished floor.
The mall has since been evacuated and is closed.
Ferguson has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation, Putney said. Ferguson has been with the department since 1996.

“The good thing about this case is that there are a lot of witnesses”, Putney said. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the Crime Stoppers website.
