The storms killed at least six in MS, including a 7-year-old boy in Holly Springs who died when the storm picked up and tossed the vehicle he was in, officials said.

“The Wilkins family lost everything, but they told me, ‘It’s still Christmas”. The greatest threat for tornadoes, damaging wind – some of which could be hurricane force – and occasional hail was for areas from eastern Arkansas and northern MS to extreme southern IL, the prediction center said.
He says the wind tore the back of his house from its foundation and multiple sheds were missing afterward.
Meteorologists said that unseasonably warm weather had caused storms across the U.S., resulting in at least seven deaths in the state of MS, three in Tennessee and one in Arkansas.
Officials were inviting volunteers to step up or make donations as people who fled returned to their homes to see what was left standing, if anything.
Greg Flynn, director of external affairs for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, said from the command post at the Wal-Mart in Holly Springs Thursday morning that in addition to the four fatalities in the state, search and rescue efforts were continuing for two missing in Benton County and one in Tippah County.
A total of six people died in Wednesday night’s storms in Middle Tennessee. Trees rested atop several trucks on his property, and slabs of brick walls were strewn throughout his yard.
A seven-year-old boy was among those killed.
Elsewhere, skiers on the slopes out West got a fresh taste of powder and most people in the Northeast enjoyed spring-like temperatures as they finished up last-minute Christmas shopping. “Mikes and p.a. systems of that magnitude that we know someone would go in and take”, he said. Two of the seven people killed in MS were from the Holly Springs area.
Francis said Jesus “calls us to act soberly, in other words, in a way that is simple, balanced, consistent, capable of seeing and doing what is essential”. Two were unaccounted for, according to Master Sgt. Ray Hall with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
In Benton County, Mississippi, relatives are helping Daisy and Charles Johnson clean up after the storm flattened their house. She started praying when she heard sheet metal hitting trees.
“It’s bad that this happened, especially at Christmas”, Pope County Sheriff Shane Jones told the AP.
One year ago a tornado hit south-eastern MS, killing five people and injuring dozens more.
