‘Blowtorch’: Eastern US could hit record Christmas Eve temps
A real scorcher relative to the typical winter weather, temperatures on Christmas Eve were set to break three records for the day in Poughkeepsie: The record high, the record highest low and the record highest average temperature.

“We now know what it feels like in Eastern Canada to spend Christmas in Charleston, South Carolina, or Tallahassee, Florida”, he told CBC News. The highest record temperature for Flint was listed on December 5 in 2001 when the temperature hit a high of 70 degrees.
And the Southeast is recovering after unseasonable severe storms and tornadoes caused miles of damage, killing 14 and injuring dozens more.
Linked to a strong El Niño pattern in the Pacific Ocean, unseasonably warm weather for late December in the eastern half of the USA will prohibit a white Christmas for many.
The temperature was 62 degrees on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 7:25 p.m.in Flint. With highs forecast at 61 for Sunday, Mr. Gresiak predicts it will surpass the existing record of 57. Other cities will break their records as well – according to The Weather Channel, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Providence, R.I., and Burlington, Vt., had already broken their daily records by early Thursday morning. Records began at this location in 1871, the National Weather Service said in a statement.
In addition to the heat in the eastern US and Midwest, some of the largest temperature anomalies are projected to occur across eastern Canada, including Ontario, Quebec and the Canadian Maritimes, where temperatures may be as much as 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit above average on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Christmas Day will be a bit cooler with a high of 60 degrees and mostly sunny skies, followed by a low of 39 degrees that night with a chance of precipitation after midnight.

Out of 1,630 monthly records, eight months during 2015 were among the 10 highest monthly temperature departures from their respective averages, and all of the months of 2015 to date are among the 25 highest.
