In global relations unscheduled visits are seen as abnormal practice. Indian and Pakistani officials did not reveal the likely agenda. Lahore is Mr. Sharif’s hometown. It’s evident that the two leaders want to take India-Pakistan ties forward. “All dishes, including Saag, daal and vegetable food, were cooked in desi ghee”, a source in the Jati Umra said.
He was received by Sharif with a warm hug at the tarmac of Allama Iqbal International Airport.
Second, Modi’s efforts to build personal rapport with world leaders should particularly pay dividends with Sharif. “When country has confidence and leadership is bold this kind of step is taken”, confided a senior BJP leader about the step taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He added that Modi had not been aware of the wedding ceremony of Sharif’s granddaughter.
Former chief minister and president of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah also reacted to the development saying, “The re-engagement with Pakistan is a good step and a very welcome development. For a better relationship, you need to avoid hype, don’t let pressure groups dictate every meeting India and Pakistan make”.
Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, in the meantime, tweeted: “Neighbours’ relations must be like this”. It can’t be termed statesman like. “Diplomacy is serious, it must have gravitas and predictability”. The meeting between the two leaders came at a time when bilateral relations have shown definite improvement after months of tensions and border clashes. “In last 67 years, has any Indian Prime Minister landed in another country in this manner”, he sought to know. “He has done something no other Indian prime minister ever did in the past”, Abid Wani, 48, said here.
Kaira said he highly appreciated the positive gesture of the Indian Prime Minister as it would open positive vistas for holding composite dialogue between the two countries.
He also made a veiled reference to Pakistan on the issue of cross-border terrorism in Afghanistan. He also said that the meeting was pre-planned and well arranged and not a quick decision.
The National Security Advisers of India and Pakistan met on December six in Bangkok.
Admitting that no dialogue process has so far produced any results, Bhat said the situation now was different in the backdrop of the dynamics of global economic liberalization as an order, which pre-supposes that peace and disputes can never co-exist.
The United States welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise Christmas Day meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawas Sharif in Lahore, the Press Trust of India reported Friday.
Modi was on his way home after a visit to Russian Federation.
“It is the right step in the right direction”.
A spokesman at Mr Sharif’s office earlier said the two leaders were to discuss a range of bilateral issues, including the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, the most contentious issue dividing the nuclear-armed rivals.
Top-level communications easing friction between the two nuclear powers would improve stability in South Asia.

India bullies Pakistan on “terrorism” and by citing “action” on terror, New Delhi seems indirectly talk only about the secret future economic projects that bring money as commission charges.
