In this photo provided by the Bakersfield Californian, investigators search a field for debris from an aircraft crash in Bakersfield, Calif., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015. Hours later, debris belonging to the aircraft was discovered scattered across a quarter mile in a central California orchard. The Kern County Sheriff-s Office-Coroner Division recovered the bodies Saturday and is in the process of identifying them. The plane was en route from Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose, California, to Henderson Executive Airport, outside Las Vegas in Clark County, Nevada, according to a statement from the FAA.
“It’s not a typical crash, coming so close to the holidays”, King said. Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board officials arrived at the scene Sunday to find out what caused the crash.
A weather front was moving through southern Kern County at the time. It sent out a mayday call before disappearing from radar.
The single-engine Piper PA32 was heading from San Jose to Las Vegas and was last detected an estimated 10 miles south of Bakersfield.
He told the Bakersfield Californian: ‘The NTSB is in charge of the investigation. FAA reported a plane was missing earlier in the afternoon.
