UK’s Christmas No. 1 goes to charity song, not Justin Bieber
A choir from a British hospital claimed the No. 1 spot on the charts over Justin Bieber… with a little help from the Biebs himself.

When the news was official, Bieber also tweeted his congratulations.
Official Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot said: “What a fantastic result for the NHS Choir to claim the 2015 Christmas number one”. It’s a brilliant celebration for the NHS across the country so well done and thank you everyone for downloading and streaming.
The Official Charts Company said it was the closest Christmas number one race since Rage Against the Machine beat X Factor victor Joe McElderry in 2009.
NHS Choir began trending after Bieber’s declaration of support and bookmakers started suspending betting.
Their track – A Bridge Over You (a mix of A Bridge Over Troubled Water and Fix You) – sold over 127,000 copies, while Justin sold 97,000 copies of Love Yourself.
“Thank you SO very much to all our followers and supporters”.
In the final hours of the race, Bieber’s song Love Yourself was neck-and-neck with a tune called A Bridge Over You, which was sung by a group of nurses, doctors and others from England’s National Health Service’s Lewisham and Greenwich Choir. According to the Daily Mail, the contenders had been neck-and-neck all week, with just 622 sales between them on Christmas Eve, but a late surge put A Bridge Over You at No. 1.
Her album, 25, has already made chart history and now holds the top spot for the fifth week running. “There couldn’t be a more deserving group of winners”. The charity single sold almost 31,000 more units than Bieber’s Love Yourself, which came in a close second. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” (Columbia/Sony) edged up 12-11 and its fellow Yuletide perennial “Fairytale Of New York” (Warner Bros.) by the Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl climbed 15-13.

Adele’s album recorded another huge sales week with a fifth-week total of almost 450,000 units.
