National Herald Case: Sonia, Rahul Get Bail
The Gandhis waved to their supporters outside the court where hundreds of police and paramilitaries stood guard, before entering for a five-minute hearing in which they were granted unconditional bail. The cadre will wage a legal battle and ensure that the top two leaders are not in trouble, he added.

He said, it was the outcome of the dictatorial mindset of the party which has been openly claiming to finish not only the Congress but entire opposition.
They fiercely deny Subramanian Swamy’s allegations and accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of waging a political vendetta against them and their embattled party, which has been struggling since a bitter electoral defeat a year ago. It was in reference to online fun being poked at Rahul Gandhi. He said, the ECI had ruled that the political parties were free to use the money as they wanted. I want to tell all the citizens of India that the Congress party and I will not bend. Vah sochte hain ki vipaksh isse jhuk jayega. “Modi-ji makes false allegations and he thinks the Opposition will bend”.
Later in the day, Sonia said, “Today we had appeared before the court with a clean conscience”. Rahul also declared: “Hum garibon aur kamjor logon ke liye ladte rahenge, aur ek inch peechhe nahi hatenge”.
“I respect the law”.
“The Congress party is united in support of (Sonia and Rahul)”.
“The current government is intentionally targeting its opponents by using government agencies”. He said later that he had not opposed the bail but had told the court that conditions should be imposed on the Gandhis travel overseas since they “were in the habit of running away from the country”. “The laws of the land apply to everyone without fear or favour”.
“They had tried to do the same thing in 1977 with Ms Indira Gandhi and failed and they are trying to do same thing with Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi and they will fail this time also”, Jakhar remarked.
The Congress leaders had gone to the High Court seeking a stay, but on December 14, the court refused to stay the summons and asked all the accused to appear for hearing on December 19. Congress MLA V S Rathore of Young India appeared on his behalf.
“Who gave Robert Vadra a government bungalow?”
But going to jail in what is essentially a property case, and by no stretch of imagination and political case, would have further exposed the marginalization of the Gandhis in the polity with no Opposition party willing to stand by them in the Herald case.

After being granted bail, the Gandhis came out of the court room along with their advocates Kapil Sibal, Ramesh Gupta and Congress leaders. “Leaders like GN Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge aside from Rahul Gandhi have expressing their trust in the judiciary”. They included a smiling Priyanka. Sonia and Rahul left the court complex immediately thereafter.
