As of now, the loss-making government-run airline serves sandwich (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and cake on its flights, which are up to 90 minutes of duration, which will be discontinued from January 1, 2016, replaced with “all vegetarian” hot meal, an airline circular said.
Air India has chose to serve only vegetarian hot meals on its domestic flights in economy class with a flying time of 60 to 90 minutes from January 1. He also said that in the long duration flights, the system of veg and non-veg will remain same. It has also cancelled serving tea and coffee on flights that provide dinner and lunch.
In a bid to attract more passengers to the debt-ridden Air India, Ministry of Civil Aviation has now chose to launch in-flight meals on its short halt flights.
Economy class passengers on flights, which is of less than 60 minutes will not be served hot meals, but only served vegetarian refreshments.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah questioned the move.
“There will be a review after obtaining passengers’ feedback”. We received a lot of suggestions and complaints to serve hot meals during winters so the same has been upgraded.
