Hundreds of Black Lives Matter Protestors Gather in Minneapolis Mall
A similar demonstration last December drew hundreds of demonstrators angry over the absence of charges following the police killings of unarmed black men in New York City and Ferguson, Missouri.

– “Black Xmas” -Protesters then boarded trains to the Minneapolis airport and blocked traffic by linking hands.
On Tuesday, the mall sought a court order to prevent the planned protest, which would impede shoppers and cause businesses to lose money on one of the final days before the Christmas holiday. He said Wednesday was going to be a busy travel day regardless.
Four people were arrested at the mall for trespassing or disorderly conduct violations.
“Black communities across the United States are taking courageous actions to impede the flow of goods and commerce with peaceful protests to call for an immediate overhaul of the justice system”, Black Lives Matter said in a statement on Facebook.
He says about 100 officers from various agencies responded and that no injuries or property damage were reported.
Protesters shut down the Mall of America, a light rail line, and the entrance to Minneapolis-St.
Earlier, hundreds of people had gathered at the Minnesota mall, one of the largest in North America, where organizers for Black Lives Matter had promised to assemble despite a judge’s warning that its owners could legally block the protest.
The governor says he questions the need for this type of demonstration.
Montgomery said the retail mecca was the ideal venue for their demonstration to pressure authorities involved in the investigation of Clark’s death to release video footage. Another arrest was made on unrelated charges, the mall said. Justice! When do we want it?
Traffic along Highway 5 and the roads into the terminals were at a standstill, and, even after the protesters were told to disperse by local law enforcement, would continue to be severely backed up for the rest of the day.
The protesters left the mall Wednesday afternoon and were walking toward a light-rail train station outside the massive suburban Minneapolis mall.
Gov. Mark Dayton said the protest was creating a “very, very risky situation”, and he urged protesters to stop blocking access to part of the airport. Security guards cordoned off parts of the central rotunda, and officers from several cities patrolled inside.
With the judge’s limited ruling, it’s unclear what additional steps the mall may take to curtail the protest.
Mall attorney Susan Gaertner had said a restraining order would make it clear that the mall prohibits demonstrations on its own private property. He stated that the release of videos of the Clark shooting collected by police would have to wait until the investigation into the shooting is complete.
The entire protest stemmed from the shooting death of 24-year-old Jamar Clark. At least two protesters were arrested near Terminal 2.

Bloomington police have not said what security measures the mall may put in place to curtail the protest.
