Rooney: We will fight for Van Gaal
The Red Devils have exited the Champions League and dropped to fifth in the Premier League after a run of six winless games.

Louis van Gaal walked out of his press conference on Wednesday as speculation mounts about his position at Manchester United.
The Ukraine-born former Russian Federation worldwide insists that Van Gaal lacks an understanding of English football and that is why he is facing the current problems at United. “But we have to win first against Stoke City, that is the main focus”. “It’s not easy, but there’s a lot of circumstances where it’s not suitable to always play good football”.
Rooney conceded, however, that United’s recent performances have been below par. And I want to say only that I have tried to lift the confidence of my players.
There was always an expectation that we were going to win. There are a lot of aspects we have to improve. “And in four weeks we can again be back in that position”.
He also stated that he would see the media next year though if United lose to Stoke and at home to Chelsea on December 28, he will do well to survive into 2016.
“We’re fighting for the manager and trying to get results to turn this around”, Rooney said.
Through all of the preparation, we have known – as well as the manager – how important this game is.
“It’s all very well pointing out that United were top of the Premier League four weeks ago”.
“The last few results haven’t been great for us and it’s frustrating, and as a player it’s hard to deal with so we have to be strong together and try and get the better results we need”, Rooney added. “As a group of players we know we can do better”.
“I do not want to get into a world of speculation, I personally have huge respect for Louis van Gaal”, Wenger said at a news conference yesterday. “We hurt. We’re proud people and proud to play for Manchester United”.
Losing against Stoke this weekend could be catastrophic in that respect because if our players show no fight at all to overturn the current situation, then fans would have every right to be angry and frustrated.

Like Van Gaal, England captain Rooney has received plenty of criticism this season after netting only twice in the Premier League, while looking well off the pace just months ahead of Euro 2016.
