Israeli police spokesperson Luba al-Samri said in a statement that the Palestinian man pulled a knife on the officer in Allenby Square, located around a mile east from Jerusalem’s Old City.
Israeli soldiers have fatally shot a Palestinian woman who they said tried to ram them with her auto in the West Bank.
A fourth Palestinian was also killed when clashes erupted in the Qalandiya refugee camp after Israeli forces entered to arrest residents suspected of involvement in the days’ attacks. Samri said the officers opened fire and killed the assailant.
SINCE the start of October, Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 128 Palestinians, 79 of whom authorities described as assailants.
After Hammad’s funeral on Saturday brief clashes broke out between Israeli security forces and Palestinians, with tear gas used to disperse the crowds.
Two Palestinians were killed on Friday and more than 30 injured in violent tension between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Xinhua reported. “Forces responded to the imminent danger and fired towards the perpetrator”, the military said, adding that one soldier had been wounded and evacuated to hospital.
The incident follows a string of deadly days the occupied Palestinian territories, with nine Palestinians and two Israelis killed since Wednesday.
The surge in attacks has been partly fueled by Palestinian frustration over the collapse of U.S.-sponsored peace talks in 2014, the growth of Jewish settlements on land they seek for a future state and Islamist calls for the destruction of Israel.

The violence has been driven by anger over Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and disputes over access to the Al Aqsa mosque compound in the Old City of Jerusalem.
