Rooney insists Man U ‘fighting’ for under-fire Van Gaal
Under-pressure Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal answered only three questions before walking out of a news conference on Wednesday.

United head to the Britannia Stadium without a win in six outings, form which has heaped pressure on Van Gaal.
United have failed to win any of their last six games. “We have focused ourselves to do that but it is not easy”.
There was always an expectation that we were going to win. There are a lot of aspects we have to improve.
“We are not in a good position but four weeks ago we were first in the Premier League and in about four weeks we can again be back in that position”. We have analysed Stoke and seen the ball is flying in the wind.
Captain Wayne Rooney insisted earlier this week he and his team-mates were ready to fight to save their manager’s job, but his reward for his rallying cry was to be dropped to the bench.
“We are fighting for the manager and trying to get results to turn this around”, Rooney told Sky Sports yesterday. “We have to stick together”. “It is frustrating and it’s hard to take”, added the United skipper.
Speculation that Van Gaal is on the brink of being sacked has been rife in recent days and the 64-year-old was in no mood to discuss matters with the media ahead of his side’s Boxing Day clash with Stoke.
“We haven’t won games the last few weeks and it’s normal confidence will be a bit low and we need to lift it”.
“As a group of players we know can do better and we regularly have meetings with the players, myself and the other senior players in the squad, and the manager as well”.
“You have to cope with every circumstance and that’s why we prepare for that game and show the players what it’s like”. It is tough for the players to deal with. “We need to prepare well, concentrate throughout and give our fans the kind of performance they deserve”.
“There are always smiles on faces and all of us want to put things right and that’s the way it has to be”. He had only scored two goals in 1140 minutes of league football before coming on at half-time and seems to have been playing most of the season as if he is running through treacle.
