And now, adding to the above, Supreme Court of India has issued an order which puts a ban on the sale of cars with a diesel engine of capacity of 2-litres or more in NCR from January 1, 2016 for three months. In response to how citizens have taken to registration ban, 51% (7169 votes) polled in favour of “other measures being needed” apart from temporarily putting new diesel SUV and luxury cars off the road.

The apex court also ruled that commercial vehicles, which are not Delhi bound, will not be allowed to enter the national capital through entry points NH-8 and NH-1.
The top court has also said that commercial vehicles registered before 2005, will not be allowed to enter the city.
Now, light duty vehicles will have to pay Rs 1400 and three-axle vehicles Rs 2,600 as ECC for entering Delhi.
New Delhi, Dec.16: Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday called for people’s participation to control the menace of pollution and said joint effort from both public and government is necessary to win war against pollution. The bench also directed the Delhi government to take steps immediately to fix pavements and to build pavements wherever these are missing, and to take immediate steps for procurement of the requisite vacuum cleaning vehicles for use on Delhi roads expeditiously, and not later than April 1, 2016.
The Delhi-NCR is also the largest market for luxury-car makers such as Mercedes, Audi and BMW, making up for a fifth of the 38,000 luxury cars projected to be sold in the country by the end of this year.
“If a similar matter is there in Supreme Court, it would be improper on our part to say anything”, the bench said.
The World Health Organisation has named New Delhi the world’s most polluted city, with 12 other Indian cities ranking among the worst 20.
Furthermore, the court advised the federal and state governments not to buy diesel vehicles for their departments.
