A local charity is set to benefit after the NHS Choir single beat Justin Bieber to the Christmas Number One.

The Canadian pop star’s “Love Yourself’” was inching ahead in sales but then Bieber offered his own Christmas gift to the NHS Choir.
Bieber still managed to make a major mark on the charts, however, taking three of its top five spots with Love Yourself in second place, Sorry in third and What Do You Mean in fifth.
The Lewisham and Greenwich choir said they were “absolutely overwhelmed” that their song, A Bridge Over You, had pipped Bieber’s track, Love Yourself.
Instead, the NHS Choir’s mash-up of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You emerged as the popular favourite in the run-up to Christmas. Let’s do the right thing & help them win.
Their main intention was to raise as much money as possible for health charities including Carers UK and Mind – and to highlight their healthcare colleagues’ sterling work.
Physiotherapist Caroline Harbord, 50, who is part of the choir, had previously said that securing a number one would help raise morale in the NHS.
They continued: “A massive cheer for the NHS, thank you!”
Meanwhile, Adele’s album 25 remains top of the album chart for the fifth week running.
‘There couldn’t be a more deserving group of winners’.
Nerva said: “We think the NHS needs the Xmas number one more than Justin Bieber”.

According to the Official Charts Company, sales in the final week before Christmas reached almost 450,000 copies.
