In an announcement coming just in time for the holiday season, tech giant Google has revealed that it is bringing all original albums from The Beatles to its $9.99/month Google Play Music subscription streaming service.
We are sure there will be plenty of Beatles music streamed this Christmas thanks to all the band’s fans around the world and all the new devices under the Christmas trees tomorrow.
Happy holidays from The Beatles: As of 12.01amyesterday, the band’s music finally became available on streaming services worldwide. These songs and albums were already available on Pandora.
The music streaming platforms that will have The Beatles include Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, and Tidal.
The band stayed off the streaming services since sharing its music on iTunes in 2011.
The Beatles have sold about 900,000 albums and 2 million digital songs this year, down from 1.2 million albums and 2.7 million songs last year, according to Nielsen Music. This step by the steaming services is expected to churn out better revenues for companies like Spotify and Apple Music.
Nielsen analyst Dave Bakula said that the Beatles’ streaming arrival could help sales by turning people on to the band for the first time. Previous examples include releasing CD versions of their albums in 1987, though CDs were popular from the early 80s, and not selling digital downloads until a deal was reached with Apple in 2010.
