The minister said that India’s presence was strongly felt at the Conference of Parties (CoP21) and that India’s views were heard and accounted for in the Paris agreement. The agreement was the culmination of the Paris Climate Conference that featured appearances from President Obama and French president Francois Hollande.
Ambassador Bhagwant Bishnoi said the Paris climate deal based itself on the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities. “In that sense, it is a win not only for India but also for all countries that were party to the final Paris Agreement”.
Thorough transparency and accountability steps will be taken under the initiative, which according to the European Union, will enable in evaluation of progress towards the long-term goal.
“We were proactive, positive and friendly”, he said.
With this action, we can begin to move toward a carbon free future and renewable energy sources to support the growth of our economies. She said: “Businesses will want to see domestic policies that demonstrate commitment to this goal and none more so than in the UK”. He stressed however that while farmers recognised the need not to allow global temperatures to rise by more than 2 degrees, it was important the United Kingdom and others did not seek to break rank by imposing even tougher controls beyond this target.
Climate change advocates should be more upset about the deal than skeptics.
The general director of CSE, Sunita Narain, says that the draft Paris agreement continues to be weak and unambitious as it does not include any meaningful targets for developed countries to reduce their emissions, adding that the developing countries have not promised much in terms of emissions cut before 2020.
“While the agreement is strong on defining the overall goal, it is weak on the specifics of the implementation”.

He noted that the Paris Agreement complements the 2030 Development Agenda and taken together, both the outcomes mark a new beginning for worldwide cooperation to protect the health of the planet and ensure a life of dignity to all people. It recognises the right of the developing countries to development and their efforts to harmonise development with environment while protecting the interests of the most vulnerable, he said.
