Salvation Army prepares for Christmas meal and winter storm
Coming up on KTXS News at 10 we’ll introduce you to a volunteer who’s been serving desserts Christmas Day at the Salvation Army for 13 years.

Along with the bread and a copy of the “War Cry” (a Salvation Army publication), each family also received a cheery “Merry Christmas”, from the Salvation Army officers, varied occasionally by “Jesus loves you”.

The Salvation Army-Alton Corps Red Kettle season officially came to a close Thursday as 2015 Kettle Coordinator Greg Gelzinnis came down from the lift that had been his home since Wednesday afternoon.
“All of the parents are asking their kids like, ‘where do you want to spend your money?’ Like it’s the kids money, you know?”
Kettle donations have been down for the Salvation Army, but a mans generous donation helped them out for the holidays.
The Salvation Army Dorchester Toy Appeal will distribute hampers to families in need in Dorchester and the surrounding area. House said they enlisted civic clubs like Rotary to help out with bell ringing this year which has made a difference.
For Wanda Hutto, the most important part of today is being able to enjoy it with her family.
“That tells me unemployment is down”, he said.
“God has been truly good to us”, Teresa Flakes said.
As some people woke up this morning to gifts under the tree, others gave the gift of their time to help those in need.
“It is a great cause”, Hawver said.
