Officials with Dart’s office have said they weren’t aware of county officers’ involvement until contacted by the Tribune this week. The Chicago mayor fired Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy after the firestorm started.
While the ire seemed mostly directed at Emanuel, demonstrators similarly are demanding the resignation of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
On Thursday, dozens of medical students from the University of Chicago, Rush University and other area schools staged a “die-in” protest at Chicago City Hall to remember the young victim.

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson speaks to guests at a barbeque hosted by Jeff Kauffman, chairman of the Republican party of Iowa, on November 22, 2015 in Wilton, Iowa.
Prospective candidates will have until Friday, January 15, to apply for the position.
“Someone has to be responsible enough in those situations to intervene before something like this happens – not only in Chicago but across the nation there are bad apples in police departments”.
After officer Jason Van Dyke fatally shot McDonald last October, he and other officers on the scene filed reports saying that the teen lunged at the officer with a knife.
The latest protest comes after a day of marches Wednesday in which hundreds took part.

Emanuel, meanwhile, apologized for the Laquan McDonald shooting on Wednesday, the same day a bill was introduced in the state legislature that would create a process to recall Chicago’s mayor.
