Nowitzki passes Shaq, helps Mavs pull out OT win over Nets
Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki (41) shoots a 3-point basket over Brooklyn Nets’ Jarrett Jack (2) to end the first half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, in NY. Thanks in large part to some exceedingly permissive Nets defense – Dallas shot 70.6 percent from the floor in the first half, en route to an 11-point halftime lead – he needed just five field-goal attempts and 10 minutes of playing time to get there. Nowitzki passed O’Neal by hitting a midrange jumper over Andrea Bargnani with 9:51 remaining in the second quarter and was mobbed with congratulatory hugs from teammates, coaches and team staffers in a timeout soon thereafter.

Nowitzki entered the night needing 10 points to pass O’Neal, who finished his career with 28,596 points. Kristaps Porzingis mentioned that Dirk paved the way for him when the Knicks and Dallas Mavericks faced off. Wilt Chamberlain is fifth on the list and the next player Dirk will pass if he plays another year.
Nowitzki is eighth on the combined NBA-ABA list, behind Julius Erving who is placed at sixth and Moses Malone placed at seventh.
When the Nets obtained him in February 2011 from the Utah Jazz, Wiliams was considered among the league’s best point guards along with Chris Paul. “We’ve got enough friends in here”, forward Taj Gibson told reporters after a testy 105-96 win at Oklahoma City followed up a 4-6 stretch and some chemistry issues. “When you’re given a max deal and you don’t perform to it, especially in NY, you’re going to hear it, and so I understand”, Williams said. For a kid leaving Germany originally over 18 years ago, we didn’t know what to expect.
“That’s what I play for, is to compete at the highest level for this franchise, for this team”, Nowitzki said.
For Rick Carlisle, it also has been a dream come true for him to be able to coach a player of Nowitzki’s stature. You run out of accolades.
The Warriors became the first team since the 1990-91 Denver Nuggets to score 100 or more points in a 47th consecutive game.
They came back to Barclays Center on Wednesday night, and kept the momentum going against the Dallas Mavericks.
The fans might have missed the opportunity of booing Williams but this one is savage. Shaq is one of the most dominant centers to play the game and is a staple in discussions in best centers to play the game. Nowitzki’s historic moment will rightfully dominate the headlines – oh yeah, he hit the game-winner, too – but Barea’s spectacular performance won’t go unnoticed, either.

In other National Basketball Association games Wednesday, Kelly Olynyk scored 20 points, Jae Crowder added 19 points and 12 rebounds and the Boston Celtics held off a fourth-quarter rally for a 102-89 victory over the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte. That bucket put the Mavericks up 40-28 early in the second quarter and it didn’t look like the Nets would ever get into this game.
