Warriors’ Curry named 2015 AP Male Athlete of the Year
The Cleveland Cavaliers left a lump of coal in fans’ stockings after falling short to the Golden State Warriors in a game that was tantalizingly close to being the final gift on a day that was full of them.

“Every time we play another team that’s at the top of the league, we want to show up, play well and get a win”, Curry said. “It was an ugly game but we made the right adjustments and we came out with a win”. “We just show our versatility and try to win different ways”. LeBron James, 30, caught a Warriors fan calling him a crybaby in the middle of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors game on December 25.
The Cavaliers held the Warriors to a season-low scoring output, and the first time they were kept under 100 points at home in over a year in the regular season, but it did not stop the reigning National Basketball Association champions from moving to 28-1.
“We don’t believe we’re going to make a statement with one game”, Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said. “It’s great experience for us”.
Meanwhile, the Cavilers dropped to 19-8, snapping their six game winning streak they had coming to Oracle Arena.
James said after the game that the Cavaliers still need to work things out offensively, so it sounds like he’ll want to give it a go.
Golden State won despite a 6-for-15 shooting effort from star guard Curry, who scored 19 points.
James answered with back-to-back power dunks and blocked a Thompson shot before Kevin Love’s (10 points and 18 rebounds) tip-in pulled the visitors to within 81-77 at the 2:15 mark.
Curry drove past Cavaliers backup Matthew Dellavedova for layups with 1:19 and 57.6 seconds remaining, re-establishing an 85-80 lead the Warriors were able to protect with four late free throws.
James shot an air ball from three-point range with 12.7 seconds to play to virtually end Cleveland’s comeback attempt.
“Tonight our defence was absolutely unbelievable for all 48 minutes”, Warriors centre Andrew Bogut said. “To keep them to the 80s, they never really got in a flow where they could really attack us”.
–A rematch of the championship series between the Warriors and Cavaliers drew almost 11 million viewers – the most-watched NBA Christmas Day telecast since 2011.
As Cleveland looked to get back in the game down the stretch, the Aussie was called upon to foul suspect free-throw shooter and current Finals MVP Andre Iguodala, and obliged by climbing all over his back. C Timofey Mozgov had zero points on 0-for-5 shooting.
What’s got to be particularly disconcerting for the Cavs is that the Warriors beat them, kept them at arm’s length the whole second half, without even getting out of third gear physically, emotionally or strategically. G Shaun Livingston scored a season-high 16 points off the bench…. Harrison Barnes was out due to his badly sprained ankle, just as he has been for the 11 previous games. Save for J.R. Smith, the Cavaliers were betrayed by the outside shot, going a awful 5-of-30 from deep against the Warriors on Christmas Day.

Anyone who tuned in to see Curry and Thompson light up the scoreboard, not to mention a healthy Cavs squad with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving alongside James, had to be pretty bummed.
