China praises Modi-Nawaz meet in Pakistan
Modi telephoned Sharif after having visited Russian Federation and when he was still in Afghanistan to greet the Pak PM on his birthday.

Modi halted in Lahore for about two hours on his way from Kabul and discussed bilateral issues with Sharif in an attempt to resume the stalled peace process between the two countries.
“We welcome the December 25 meeting between PM Modi and PM (Nawaz) Sharif”.
Without referring directly to Pakistan, Modi said that some had seen “sinister designs in our presence” in Afghanistan. The Indian PM must not have been welcomed as Modi murdered Muslims living in Kashmir. Sharif’s home was elaborately decorated with lights for his granddaughter’s wedding the next day. In what appears to be an unprecedented gesture by Prime Minister Sharif, he both received and saw off Modi at Lahore airport.
Modi was on his way back from a visit to Russian Federation.
After Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s surprise to Lahore on Friday, India and Pakistan are now expected to hold their foreign secretary-level talks in Islamabad on January 15 to discuss modalities and schedule for various issues under the Composite Dialogue.
“But yes, it’s a clear signal that active engagement can be done at a quick pace”, the aide said, declining to be identified.
It was Modi’s first visit to Pakistan and the first by an Indian prime minister in 12 years. India and Pakistan came into existence in 1947 when they were created out of Britain’s former colony.
“Modi’s sudden visit and extraordinary treatment of him by the Pakistan government rekindled the painful memories of the relatives of terrorism victims in Pakistan and the people of Kashmir”, he lamented. It was the first visit to this country by an Indian premier in more than a decade of tense relations between the nuclear-armed enemy neighbors.
Though there was no official announcement from either India or Pakistani side, sources said Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will travel to Islamabad to hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry. “But the talks should sustain”, Mr Yechury added.
“It is utterly ridiculous. Now, when the talks are happening in Pakistan, they’re saying why there”, stated Singh, including that any progressive individual or nation would recognize the step taken by the Prime Minister. “We should make this good spell count”, said Malik.

The Indian prime minister’s visit had a positive impact in Pakistan and the opposition parties in Pakistan welcomed the visit and hoped that it will help in reducing tensions.
