At 3PM, the Queen’s Christmas message seen by a total of 7.4 million viewers when you combine the BBC (6.1) and ITV (1.3) figures, down on 2014’s combined total of 7.8 million.

The last time ITV beat the BBC to the top spot on Christmas Day was in 2000, when Coronation Street was watched by an audience of 13.7 million.

The BBC claimed eight of the 10 most watched Christmas shows, with Mrs Brown’s Boys and Stick Man drawing in an average of 6.4 million respectively, and Doctor Who and Call the Midwife pulling in an audience of 5.8 million each. Below in that was long-running BBC soap EastEnders which went head-to-head with the Crawley family at 8:45PM, picking up 5.7M viewers.

On ITV, Emmerdale interested 4.4 million (down 1.1 million) and Corrie posted 5.8 million (down 600,000).
