SpaceX Just Made History With This Incredible Rocket Launch
Previous attempts by SpaceX to land Falcon 9 boosters had failed.

The primary mission was to put 11 small satellites into low orbit for Orbcomm’s new satellite network. Now SpaceX has released new footage shot from a helicopter that was hovering near the landing zone, and it offers a fantastic view of the 14-story-tall rocket stage hitting its mark after returning from space.
The launch was the first for SpaceX since June, when a Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Dragon capsule loaded with 4,300 pounds of supplies for the International Space Station exploded shortly after takeoff.
On that occasion an unmanned Falcon-9 rocket broke apart in flames minutes after lifting off from Cape Canaveral, with debris tumbling out of the sky into the Atlantic Ocean.
On Monday many people gathered at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California, amid screams and cheers of people gathered a commentator said, “The Falcon has landed”.
“The Falcon 9 rocket we are about to launch has higher performance than the prior version due mostly to increased boost thrust, deep cryo oxidizer and a much larger upper stage engine bell”. Re-using the first stage saves the company a portion of the cost per launch, which would otherwise have been needed to build another first stage. Musk called the moment revolutionary, saying that it landed “dead center on the landing pad”. “No-one has ever brought a booster, an orbital-class booster, back intact”. He learned the happy truth when he went back into Launch Control and saw video of the standing rocket.
Blue Origin, SpaceX and other companies have been competing to develop the first fully reusable rocket.

Landing rockets upright is crucial to cutting the cost of space travel, since that means the rockets can be reused. The company is owned by Tesla owner Elon Musk. That rocket, though, had been used for a suborbital flight. Excitement and congratulations from all on this spectacular achievement, with some meaningful additions that pointed out the importance of this event in the grand scheme of space travel and the future.
