Christmas warmth set three temperature records in Baltimore
As of earlier this week, this month alone saw more than 2,600 record-high temperatures – and many more are expected before the new year. National Weather Service meteorologist Carlie Buccola said 72 degrees was only 3 degrees cooler than it was on July Fourth.

It disrupts the typical flow of air in the atmosphere and creates mild winters.
The higher-than-normal temperatures are forecast to continue for most of the northern half of the United States through the rest of the winter, according to the latest forecast from the Climate Prediction Center.
New York City has broken its record for the warmest Christmas.
Today’s weather is poised to shatter the Christmas Eve record high for the area: 58 degrees in 1964, according to weather records.
“We probably will see more of the same heading into next month”, Thompson said. Friday’s expected high is 81 degrees, which would break the record for December 25 by 1 degree.
The Christmas heat comes after a particularly warm December. The record-high for Portland, Maine, is 53 degrees in 1957, while Concord, New Hampshire’s record-high for the day was set in 1871 when temperatures climbed to 57 degrees.
On Wednesday, as this historically warm and humid air collided with a cold front ejecting out of the Plains, severe weather erupted in the South. Twenty-nine tornadoes were reported in six states, and there were 10 storm-related fatalities, including six in Mississippi.
Christmas Day will be a bit cooler with a high of 60 degrees and mostly sunny skies, followed by a low of 39 degrees that night with a chance of precipitation after midnight.
The National Weather Service said temperature readings at Central Park reached 66 degrees at 12:31 a.m. Friday. Someone’s bound to recall the blizzard of 2009, when there was snow on the ground – and plenty of it – on Christmas, but on the day itself the snow melted and rain fell. The previous record was 63 degrees in 1996.
