Broncos will check Peyton Manning’s progress in Saturday workout
There won’t be a surprise Peyton Manning return on Monday night for the Broncos, as the team announced Wednesday that Manning would be inactive for Week 16.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said Brock Osweiler’s eye infection has largely cleared up and Peyton Manning had a good week of work.
Manning has already been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Bengals, and Brock Osweiler will make his sixth start in his place.
Manning has been out since his four-interception, 0.0-passer rating nightmare against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 15 made it obvious he couldn’t perform with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left heel. A large part of that is because of the teammates that I have around myself.
The truth is that if Manning does not recover and is cut by the Broncos, there are few teams who will be willing to take a chance on a 39 year old quarterback coming off a significant injury. “I feel like I’m always calm”. For me, it’s just all about doing whatever is best for this football team, and being prepared to play.
But what the Broncos need is for Osweiler – and the offense – be more like its first-half selves than what they have been in the second half. The Broncos’ depleted safety corps got their two starters back Saturday, at least during the early viewing period.
Following that outing, Denver will close the season with a division matchup taking on the struggling San Diego Chargers.
After Saturday’s “big workout”, Kubiak didn’t have much to say. With only one regular-season game remaining after Monday night’s contest against the Broncos, it could be that Peyton will play, if at all, during the postseason.

Or, for that matter, what the Denver Broncos general manager expected of wide receiver Demaryius Thomas after agreeing on a $70 million contract in July.

“That’s why he’s a Pro Bowl player, and I think there is even more to come down the road for him”, Kubiak said, adding.
