The Afghan National Army (ANA) forces thwarted a plot to carry out a series of roadside bomb attacks in Kabul, the defense authorities said Saturday.
“(Sharif) will hold meetings with political and military leadership of Afghanistan”, Bajwa said. The talks came to a standstill shortly after the first round, when the militants belatedly announced the death of their longtime leader Mullah Omar.
In October, Pakistani officials said the talks were expected to resume.
The two countries are without any mechanism for coordination on the border since a tripartite commission, involving Pakistan, Afghanistan and coalition forces, completed its mandate following the end of International Security Assistance Force’s Afghan mission in December 2014.
Gul said that the resumption of dialogue with the Taliban, action against Haqqani network and other militant groups, as well as peaceful border management were likely to be discussed during talks between General Sharif, not related to Premier Sharif, and top Afghan leaders.

Afghan officials have in recent years criticized Islamabad for allowing the Taliban to freely operate in the Pakistani-Afghan border area. “We give credence to the idea of resolving conflicts through peaceful negotiations and urge full support by HOA-IP countries to the Government of Afghanistan in implementing an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation initiatives, and realising its peace objectives”.
