But the National Weather Service has compiled a history of white Christmases in southeast MI, offering a nostalgic look back at the most impressive December 25 snow measurements on record. Burlington, Vermont, for example, recorded its highest temperature for any December on record Thursday with a high of 68 degrees Fahrenheit, one degree more than the records set in 1998 and 1941. The typical Christmas Day in our area is cloudy with frosty mornings and lows around 30 degrees.

Friday NBA Betting Report: Warriors seek revenge on Bucks
Golden State recorded its third consecutive home win over the Bucks despite hitting just nine of its 26 3-point attempts. But it did seem as though Golden State was playing in the NBA Finals every time it hit the floor.

Scoring milestone adds to the legend of Dirk Nowitzki
He has 15 double-doubles thus far, including Monday’s win over the Chicago Bulls and Wednesday night’s close loss to the Mavs. The Nets had six players in double figures, but it wasn’t enough offset Dallas, which also got 22 points from Nowitzki.

Saturday’s temperatures could reach 48 degrees, and Sunday’s high will be about 42.

It seems possible that when the final numbers are in, highs in parts of the state could tie temperatures recorded on this past 4th of July. “Snowfall totals between 2 and 5 inches are expected above 3,500 feet with the best chances for accumulating snowfall across north-facing mountain slopes of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, including the I-5 corridor through the Grapevine”.

Those looking for some extra excitement on Christmas Eve could be seen wind surfing in Lake Ontario, while others opted for relaxed walks through nature.

Some meteorologists are referring to the warm weather as a “blowtorch” pattern in the East, primarily a product of what Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips called a “super El Niño”. The most snow already on the ground for Christmas Day was a whopping 14 inches in 1969.

Major metropolitan areas in the Northeast saw some of the warmest Christmas Days on record, meaning green grass rather than white snow in time for Santa’s visits. The record was set in 1893.

There’s also a blizzard watch in western Texas, and the clashing of cold and warm air is what’s behind some of the severe weather. Highs will continue to flirt with the records and winds will start to howl but rain chances remain low.
