Chiefs’ Smith showing Browns’ Manziel path to success
He is expected to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs (9-5) are one of the hottest teams in the National Football League with just one game behind the Denver Broncos.
That would be Smith’s last season before being drafted No. 1 overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, and Kruger’s last season before leaving for two years to serve on an LDS Church mission to the Missouri Independence Mission, just five miles down the street from Arrowhead Stadium. Smith has completed 278-of-424 passes for 3,205 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions this season.
“He knows he’s in charge out there”, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said.
So, yeah, if you think the Chiefs’ problems with quarterbacks are bad, try being a Browns fan. Things have been just as topsy-turvy in Year 2, which has included off-field issues, a benching after the bye, and a couple of decent performances that have earned him another start Sunday. “From a defensive standpoint, you’ve got to make sure you play the whole play and then a little”. “Like I said, within that, you are hoping that your fundamentals within the pocket, your decision-making and throwing accurate footballs, all of that is a product of that”.
The Browns had a pair of first-round picks who disappointed as rookies in 2014. “They are doing a lot of good things that put him on the run and stress the defense”. That additional dimension has made him very valuable with how poorly the Browns’ offense has been playing. “He does a really good job knowing where the ball needs to go and getting the ball there”.
Although Kelce and Maclin have had successful seasons, Browns coach Mike Pettine feels it is a by-product of Smith’s play. “He has put it in and has done it”.
The Browns will be without the team leader in sacks, Armonty Bryant, and will need other pass rushers to step up in his absence.
But second-year pro Dee Ford, who has filled in for Houston, offers speed and has played well as a starter the past three games, totaling nine tackles and three sacks during that span. Frank Zombo, who could start in place of Hali, brings experience with 71 appearances (14 starts) over his six-year career. “We are going to go on the road to a tough environment, playing a team that is on a roll”. They’re dealing with two as of Sunday, and the two cornerstone pieces of the group, Joe Thomas and Alex Mack, are battling minor injuries that limited them in practice this week. “Hopefully I don’t have to go”. We’re not looking at the individual stuff right now.
BOWE SHOW BACK, MAYBE: Browns wide receiver Dwayne Bowe will return to Kansas City, where he spent the first eight years of his career, assuming he is active. This week and next week against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers are Manziel’s final two games to impress Browns coaches and management as they continue to evaluate the second-year pro.
Rookie cornerback Marcus Peters points out it will be important for everyone on defense to do their job and have trust in each other on Sunday.

Big edge here for the Chiefs, who have established an identity as a running team and will be facing a team that struggles mightily against the run. I have a ton of respect for him and like I said earlier in the year when everything happened, whether I liked the situation or not and liked the outcome of what happened, I had a part in that too and I had to take responsibility and own up to that.
