Coli outbreak appears to be over, CDC says
This year, 198 people have been sickened in connection with eating Chipotle, either from E. coli or norovirus.

FDA, CDC and state and local public health officials are investigating a separate Escherichia coli outbreak linked to food served at Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants, according to a recent FDA report. They include one person in Kansas, one in North Dakota and three in Oklahoma.
At the same time, however, the CDC had some bad news.
“Chipotle’s food safety issues seem to have exposed deficiencies in the chain’s supply testing protocol, particularly as it – like Yum China – manages hundreds of small suppliers”, David Palmer of RBC Capital Markets said in a December 7 report.
After Chipotle was linked to the E. coli contagion in October, it temporarily shut down locations in Washington state and Oregon. Ill people ranged in age from 5 years to 84, with a median age of 18, the CDC reported. The safety program will involve DNA testing of all fresh produce and end-of-shelf-life testing to ensure that ingredients are safe to consume. He noted that even the most recent exposures reported by the CDC are now a month old.
“It is not known at this time if these infections are related to the previously reported outbreak”, the report said.
The company said it has completed a comprehensive review of its food safety programs focused on each of its ingredients, and the process of implementing related changes has already begun. Those points of differentiation have always been marketing strengths for Chipotle, which has sought to distinguish itself as being of higher quality than traditional fast-food chains. “The investigation has not identified what specific food is linked to illness”.
And this month, Chipotle closed a restaurant in Boston after dozens of students at Boston College reported gastrointestinal symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Monday it is investigating five new cases of a “different, rare DNA fingerprint” of the Shiga toxin E.coli O26. Earlier in trading, the stock hit a 52-week low of $508.10.
