Options available for Christmas tree disposal
Howard County residents with curbside yard trim collection may set their holiday trees out on their yard trim day for collection through Friday, January 15.

Richmond Sanitary District also offers Christmas tree pickup at no additional cost to its customers. Vigil took his tree to the 30th Street location Saturday morning because it had begun to dry out, and he was concerned it could soon become a fire hazard. It is open for free tree drop-off from 8 a.m.to noon January 5 and January 12. Oxnard allows free whole-tree collection on regular days of garbage collection December 28-Jan.
Trees can also be dropped off at the Southwest Government Center or the Waste Reduction Center on Meriwether Avenue.
Of course, in all parts of the county the most efficient way to handle your tree is to cut it into sections less than 4 feet long and place them in your yard-waste cart.
Once the eggnog is gone and the presents are unwrapped consider giving your real Christmas tree another life by donating it to the Trees to Trails Collection program at Radnor Lake State Natural Area.
Trees can be dropped off at the following locations: Cane Ridge Park, Una Recreation Center, Whitfield Park, Cedar Hill Park, Two Rivers Park, Joelton Community Center, Sevier Park, Richland Park, Elmington Park, Edwin Warner Park and Lakewood City Hall. Metal, plastic and ornaments in trees and wreaths must be removed. He said the recycling is the only responsible thing to do with the trees.
Residents are asked to have their Christmas trees placed where their trash is collected starting on January 4.
City of Pasadena Public Works: Remove all stands, ornaments and lights. Trees will be stored on the grounds temporarily before being taken for recycling.

The trees will be chipped, then mixed with grass cuttings and hedge leaves to create nutrient rich compost.
