Coli Outbreak Linked To Costco Seems To Be Over
However, an investigation update provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on December 8 stated that further laboratory analysis was unable to confirm the presence of E. coli O157:H7 in the sample of diced celery and onion blend.

After another E. coli outbreak was linked to Chipotle restaurants in three new states including Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Dakota on Monday, shares of the fast food chain were down more than 4% in early trading on Tuesday.
“The epidemiological evidence available at this time suggests that a common meal item or ingredient served at Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants in several states is a likely source of this outbreak”, the CDC said in a statement Monday.
Earlier in December, 30 Boston College students, including at least eight members of the men’s basketball team, reportedly complained of gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at a Chipotle restaurant in Cleveland circle. Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (CMG) reported last quarter earnings on October 20.
“We believe they are related, and are working with the CDC and FDA while they investigate, ” Arnold said.
There was also a salmonella outbreak this year, followed by an outbreak of the norovirus.
Each year, about 48 million people get sick from foodborne illnesses, according to the CDC.
Chipotle co-CEO Steve Ells has told The Associated Press he doesn’t think the company will ever know for sure the exact ingredient that sickened customers in the larger outbreak, but that he believes it was bacteria in fresh food like tomatoes or cilantro.

Chipotle CMG, -3.52% shares have fallen 18% in the period since. Taylor Farms officials cited that report as the all clear for their products even though FDA officials said there could have been undetected pathogens in the fresh-cut mix.

The company said it has completed a comprehensive review of its food safety programs focused on each of its ingredients, and the process of implementing related changes has already begun. The stock fell as low as 508.10 intraday, which was the lowest since May 2014.
