Goodbye to Downton – Series filmed in Hampshire ends
Downton Abbey’s farewell episode was the most-watched TV show of Christmas Day 2015.

However, the period drama increased to an impressive 12.1 million viewers when consolidated figures, which take into account viewers watching via catch-up services, were released.
But watching Her Majesty’s annual address appears to be one of the only festive rituals that hasn’t fallen from fashion.
Coronation Street was watched by 5.9m, and the only movie to feature within the Top 10 rated programmes of the day was Brace with 5.5 million viewers.
However, ITV’s victory will be overshadowed by the overall decline in people tuning into the main channels over Christmas Day. But, will fans be satisfied with the endings that Fellowes has to dish out?
Other viewers continued: “So happy for Lady Edith, Spratt needs his own show #DowntonAbbey”, and: “Lady Edith finally got her happy ending, there’s hope for me yet!” In January 2015, Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Phyllis Logan (Mrs. Hughes), and Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore) played it too.
Patricia Hodge, best known in recent years for her role in BBC One comedy Miranda, will play the mother of Bertie Pelham.
A dark cloud will hover over Downton in the two-hour episode as two cast members will be told grim health news. Still, Lord Grantham maintains an optimistic outlook on the future, later saying: “We never know what’s coming of course, but who does?”
Also appearing will be Lily James and Matt Barber as Lady Rose and Atticus Aldridge, while Peter Egan returns as Lady Rose’s father, Shrimpie.
And it would appear ITV also fears it might lose the contest as bosses reportedly made a decision to push back the Downton Abbey start time to stop it clashing with the BBC’s midwifery drama.

Jacki Winstanley, Beamish’s marketing officer, said: “It was fantastic to have a scene from the very last episode of Downton Abbey filmed at Beamish”.
