Illinois driver’s license deemed not secure enough for feds
Minnesota does not comply with 13 Real ID requirements, mostly provisions to make the ID more secure.

The act set those standards, which include requiring applicants to provide proof of identity and legal U.S. residency and requiring states to use counterfeit-resistant security features in the IDs.
Dayton is urging lawmakers to take action after a federal warning about the Real ID Act. In the meantime, an expert on the law says people in places such as IL and Missouri where DHS this week essentially said time’s up for the states to comply may want to get a passport.
“We need to take some steps because we know that at some point, we don’t know when, but at some point we need a drivers’ license that conforms with the entire stance the Feds are requiring”, said Minnesota State Sen.
Jackson says he hopes that would be enough time to get the issue before the 2017 Legislature. He worries what form of identification he can use if his license isn’t valid.
In their letter, top Homeland Security officials said Minnesota will get 120 days’ notice before a REAL ID-compliant card will be required for domestic air travel.
Several other states are at risk of being declared non-compliant with Real ID, and there’s a chance that the portions of the law will be rolled back.
Complaints received by the governor’s office are from Minnesotans who have had difficulty getting into some Washington, D.C., buildings, not ones in the state. No decision has been made about holding a special session.
A spokesman for the governor said Dayton will address the issue Wednesday during a previously scheduled media availability.
The more serious concern is that the federal government will stop accepting Missouri drivers licenses as a valid form of identification to board a plane. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said.
DHS has said it will extend the requirements to airports sometime in 2016, though the department hasn’t said when. “I have spoken with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security about this issue and I continue to call on the Minnesota state Legislature to make the necessary changes to state law that appropriately fix this issue for Minnesotans while protecting privacy and civil liberties”. The announcement is expected in the next week or two.

Minnesota has also failed to adopt it. But Minnesota has been denied any waivers from the federal Department of Homeland Security.
