How often has it been that you have really enjoyed biting into a soft and succulent chicken nugget? Well, if you answer to that question is, once too often, you aren’t alone. Nuggets have been a favorite snack of young and old for years now, but after you learn this discomforting truth about chicken nuggets you might not enjoy them as much anymore. If you are curious as to which fast food chain nuggets were tested, you would be bothered to know that both the nuggets were obtained from two different and hugely popular chains in the US. In other words, it appears that the whole fast food industry is complicit, when it comes to selling chicken nuggets without much chicken in them. Surely by now you are very very curious about the contents of the other 50% of the nugget. The tests have revealed that in one of the nuggets the other 50% consisted of blood vessels, nerves and mainly fat.

Truth About Chicken Nuggets

It was also revealed that the nugget contained the lining of a chicken’s organs. In the other nugget what was found was even more disconcerting. Basically, most part of this nugget contained fat, pieces of bone and cartilage. It seems like stand up comedians aren’t wrong when they say you should never ask what’s in a chicken nugget. Of course, most of us were already aware that these nuggets aren’t the healthiest thing in the world, but the fact that they contain parts of the chicken that are normally discarded, isn’t a very pleasing thought.

Dr. Richard D. deShazo, who headed this study, isn’t very pleased with what he has learnt and was quoted as saying “”We all know white chicken meat to be one of the best sources of lean protein available and encourage our patients to eat it. What has happened is that some companies have chosen to use an artificial mixture of chicken parts rather than low-fat chicken white meat, batter it up and fry it and still call it chicken.” He further went on to add “it is really a chicken by-product high in calories, salt, sugar and fat that is a very unhealthy choice. Even worse, it tastes great and kids love it and it is marketed to them.”
