No snow this Christmas, but we will get a full moon
A rare sight in the sky overhead this Christmas, and no, we’re not talking about Santa Claus.

The next full Christmas moon will appear in 2034, and that’s a long time to wait, so take advantage of the opportunity to admire it tonight, if the skies above your location are clear.
It won’t happen again until 2034, so hopefully you were able to catch a glimpse.
Because these two cycles are a few hours apart, we just missed a full moon on Christmas day in 1996. Not since 1977 has a full moon dawned in the skies on Christmas.
A full moon is seen in Lausanne, Switzerland, in September.
The BusinessInsider notes that, Christmas is already a special time for many Americans, but there’s an added bonus to this year’s celebration: For the first time in 38 years, the last full moon of the year will fall on December 25.
According to NASA December’s full moon is called the Full Cold moon because it occurs during winter. Its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission has been investigating the moon’s surface since 2009.
NASA has a spacecraft now orbiting the Earth’s moon.
