‘Muslim states must strive to fix Islam’s public image’
Rouhani also criticized Muslim nations for “being silent in the face of all the killing and bloodshed” in the region – including in Syria, Iraq and Yemen where Iran plays a role in the conflicts.

“We must remove Islam’s negative image from today’s cyber and real space”, he told a conference in Tehran.
The comments are unusual for an Iranian leader, although Mr Rouhani has made improving relations with the West a feature of his presidency.
Most “violence, terror and massacres, unfortunately, take place in the Islamic world”, he noted.
The Islamic Republic supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has close ties with neighbouring Iraq and condemns Isis.
“Is it all right if we give oil money to the United States, buy missiles, and drop them on Muslims?” he asked, IRNA reported December 27.
“Terrorism can not be wiped out with bombs….”
” “For years and years, we have talked of unity”.
“If some groups like Daesh can recruit soldiers, the reason is financial and cultural poverty”, Rouhani said, using an Arabic acronym for IS.
“Terrorism will not be destroyed by bombs”, he insisted, suggesting that economic connections would foster unity within the Islamic world.
He argued that the ongoing Saudi-led coalition bombing of Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen was contributing to that country’s dire humanitarian state.
Addressing a conference on Islamic unity on Sunday, the Iranian president spoke of the shame of watching Muslim children make long, risky journeys to seek refuge in non-Islamic countries.

Speaking about Israel, Rouhani stated that the Jewish State is the only country that is “pleased by Syria’s destruction” and that “the Islamic world is not going to stop looking at the Zionist regime as the main aggressor”, IRNA reported.
