Watch AIB and EIC Videos: How Facebook is Promoting Free Basics & Net
With this new video, AIB strives to explain how Facebook is trying to promote its Free Basics in India and the way the social media giant is moving with its aggressive marketing strategy so as to entice the deceptive users and get their support. For the next three days, they will try to successfully execute their Herculean mission – to “discredit” the online and offline blitzkrieg launched by Facebook to push their latest initiative “Free Basics”.

It is said to offer free access to a set of basic websites and services with the objective of introducing internet to the people.
Earlier this week India’s telecoms regulator told the mobile network that is partnered with the Free Basics programme to place it on hold – effectively putting a stop to Free Basics for the time being. Before you go and support any one of them without knowing what actually they mean, you should understand a few facts based on which you can decide.
Recently, Facebook started notifying users to sign up in agreement of the free basics – a move widely criticised by all and prompting TRAI to ask for a hold on rollout of Free Basics in the country.
At the same time, 67% of 328 respondents believe Facebook is abusing its position by using its own platform to urge users to support Free Basics. If Free Basics is implemented in India, it could prevent more such innovation, which could help the unconnected Indians online, Siddhartha added. Well, thats not what its meant to do, and Microsoft India’s Chairman has come out to let you know just that.
Through this video AIB has also urged people to support net neutrality by sending an email to TRAI through SavetheInternet.in before December 30, 2015.
The paper asks for comments on whether such differential pricing should be allowed. But to muddy it and say that it is also net neutral doesn’t make sense. “During the consultation process, we hope the focus is on the issues that matter most”.
