Jaguars eliminated from playoff contention prior to game against Saints
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks, right, pulls in a touchdown reception in front of Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Nick Marshall in the first half of an NFL football game Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, in New Orleans.

Brees led New Orleans on touchdown drives of 80, 98, 80 and 88 yards, and the Saints dominated the Jaguars with 537 yards in total offense, and a 29-21 advantage in first downs.
Now, 14 games into a season when Brees has effectively quieted talk that his physical skills are on the decline at age 36 – Brees is putting up his usual stat line, with 4,135 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, all while working with an overhauled receiving corps – the veteran finds himself battling another injury he has never had to manage before.
These numbers all bode well for a Saints passing attack that should be strong this week in a shootout with Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, and Allen Hurns, even with Brees at less than 100%.

The Saints enter Sunday’s game against Jacksonville with a 5-9 overall record. “I had a dislocated shoulder 10 years ago, which I guess is about as bad as it gets when it comes to a shoulder injury, I didn’t have to miss any games”.
The Saints did not practice last Tuesday or Wednesday, and Brees sat out Thursday’s practice, allowing him at least three days’ rest. Brees said all week that he would play today, however, and it appears as though he’s on track to do so.
I like the Jaguars in an upset this week because I don’t think playing with a foot injury as severe as Brees’ is going to end in success.

Also sitting out was running back C.J. Spiller, whose season has fallen far short of expectations after New Orleans made him one of their prime free-agent acquisitions last offseason. Tim Hightower finished with 27 carries for 122 yards and a pair of scores. It was the second-year pro’s first 1,000-yard season…
