Star Wars The Force Awakens Destroys Box Office!
With the Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster triggering quite an uproar in the media, Disney has not commented on the matter yet.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will set a new opening weekend record of at least $215 million in the US, estimates showed Friday evening. The previous record-holder was Jurassic World, which made $208.8 million during its debut weekend over the summer.
The global totals are all the more impressive because “The Force Awakens” has yet to open in China, the world’s second biggest film market.
“This represents a new record for the industry and portends a massive and potentially record-breaking opening day and weekend for the film”, said Paul Dergarabedian, of box office tracker Rentrak. “The Force Awakens” surpassed “Jurassic World’s” $207 million total, which roared past “The Avengers” this spring to claim the top spot.
“The Force Awakens” now holds the box office records for biggest Thursday night opening, biggest one day gross, biggest December debut, and biggest opening weekend of all time.
Filmgoers reveled in the return to the “Star Wars” galaxy, dressing as Jedi or Sith, carrying lightsabers and cheering when classic characters such as Princess Leia or Chewbacca appeared on screen. However, the latter had the advantage of opening in China as well; The Force Awakens doesn’t come out there until 9 January, 2016.
When Disney acquired Lucas Films in 2012, fans were a little skeptical.
That’s nearly $9 million than the previous record holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which grossed $18.36 million in July 2011.
It had pulled in US$120.5 million by last Friday, its first full day in North American theatres, the highest single-day ticket sales ever.
Audiences awarded an “A” rating in polling by survey firm CinemaScore, Disney said.
“Force Awakens” has a shot at becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time, according to some analysts.

Globally, Star Wars brought in $517 million, coming in just under the $525 million that Jurassic World made.
