People dressed as characters from the movie Star Wars – including iconic bad guy Darth Vader – attend a service at the church Zionskirche in Berlin.
The character also killed his wife, tortured his daughter and tried to kill his son.
The man formerly known as Eric Welch said he grew up in foster homes and never felt any real association with his family name.
Vader is waiting on a bone marrow transplant and has a GoFundMe page set up. He also repeatedly confirms his identity as the Darth Vader. He doesn’t wear a mask like the Sith Lord in his driver’s license photo, but the ID does, in fact, name him as “Darth Vader” of Canandaigua.
Tony Hicks writes celebrity commentary for the Bay Area News Group. But he told the newspaper he’ll eventually need a marrow transplant, and is on the Bone Marrow Transplant list at VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle.
So far, he has competed in 45 obstacle courses in the Tough Mudder races and is aiming to reach more than 50 by next summer.
“It was kind of like a snake shedding the skin type of thing”, Vader said.
A longtime “Star Wars” fan, Vader said he was drawn to the Dark Side and identified with the series’ villains.
He has seen the latest installment of Star Wars, “The Force Awakens,” and said he enjoyed the flick.
