The Centers for Disease Control is now investigating five new cases out of Oklahoma and Kansas.
“It is not known at this time if these infections are related to the previously reported outbreak”, the report said.
Most illnesses were reported from the western United States. “Chipotle says it’s helping find which distributor created the problem”. It is imperative to state that post the outbreak the company had assured customers that it would tighten its food safety standards.
“Investigation is still ongoing to identify common meal items or ingredients causing illness”, the CDC said.
“We have indicated before that we expected that we may see additional cases stemming from this, and CDC is now reporting some additional cases”, Arnold said in the email. The CDC said that all the five of them said that they had eaten at Chipotle, the week before they got sick.
Chipotle has put new food safety measures in place after reports of E. coli and norovirus at its restaurants. Amid the outbreak, Chipotle had shut several of its outlets temporarily till the investigations were on.
Chipotle officials have taken action to enhance the company’s food safety program and hired Seattle-based IEH Laboratories to help improve the company’s safety practices, according to a Chipotle press release. The cause of the E. coli contagion still hasn’t been found. (NYSE:CMG) woes on the long-running E-coli outbreak debacle refuse to go away.
“We are in the process of implementing reassessed programs including high-resolution testing of ingredients”, Chipotle said in an emailed statement on Monday. Jennison Associates now owns 1,061,894 shares of the company’s stock valued at $764,829,000 after buying an additional 92,178 shares during the last quarter. Saleh reiterated his buy rating on Chipotle and thinks the stock could rebound to $664. Research analysts on the sell-side, depending on the firm, use different terminology in their research reports.
With a possible second E. coli O26 outbreak, a plummeting stock price and no answers, it’s a lousy winter solstice for Chipotle.

Chipotle has become the butt of jokes on social media, with people tweeting and posting Instagram photos about how they hope to not come down with E. coli after eating a burrito bowl.
