The moon will also be at a high trajectory across the sky because it’s opposite a low sun.
“The moon cycles every 29.5 days, meaning every 29.5 days, there will be a full moon….”
Not one to be forgotten in the midst of all our Christmas celebrations, space is giving us plenty of reasons to look up and marvel at its various cosmic phenomena, sending an asteroid our way on 24 December, and then dishing up the first Christmas full moon in nearly 40 years. The full moon, which is the last of the year, is called the Full Cold Moon because it occurs at the start of winter. “The closest this object will come to Santa and his eight tiny reindeer is about 28 times the distance between the Earth and the moon”.
The moon reached its peak size at 6:11 a.m. ET. Its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission has been investigating the moon’s surface since 2009. Nonetheless to watch full moon at its fullest you will have to be awake till early morning.
